Many foreign workers search for a better life abroad and specifically in Canada it has been years now that many people from India travel to Canada to seek for employment. There are hundreds of industries depending on foreign workers particularly from India and due to this many workers from India travel Canada.
Nevertheless, the Canadian government with PM Justin Trudeau has developed new policies to hire foreign workers under the TFW program that will coming into force from September 26,2024.
The Temporary Foreign Worker Program
The Temporary Foreign Worker Program enable employers in Canada to getting foreign workers in place when there are no local candidates for the positions. However, there is criticism citing that program has been abused where companies have hired more foreigners instead of hiring domestic staff. To solve this problem, the Trudeau government has recently set better rules to prevent program misuse and promote ethical hiring processes.
New LMIA Requirements
Now in line with the new standards, the employers for foreign workers are required to complete LMIA. The LMIA process entail the company to prove that they could not find the right applicant in Canada for the position. The Canadian government feels that this measure will help to foster business’s local talent base in order to cut the number of foreign workers it employs.
New employers are likely to take stronger measures in limiting the employment of foreign workers. One of the primary modifications in the TFW Program is the cap that has been placed on foreign workforce recruitment by an organization.
This means that employers will not be allowed to hire more than 10% of their workforce with the help of the TFW Program. Furthermore, all LMIA applications concerning certain sectors will be refused where the unemployment rate is 6% or higher. Limited employment period for foreign workers
Impact on Indian Workers
If these new regulations are implemented for Indian workers especially those who get a job in agriculture and other low skills demanding professions, the process of getting a opportunity to working in Canada will be harder to achieve.
